Thousands visited the International Buddhist Temple in Richmond, B.C., on Tuesday to pray and burn incense while welcoming the Lunar New Year.

People bid farewell to the Year of the Dog in the 12-year-Chinese zodiac calendar and greeted the Year of the Pig, said to be a good time to make money and invest.

As is tradition on the first day of the New Year, families visit temples before gathering to celebrate with multi-generational banquets.
