A feast for the eyes

Colour, costumes and food — plates of wonderful things to eat — filled the Royal Canadian Legion in St. John's on Saturday night.

The Chinese Association of Newfoundland and Labrador held its annual feast to mark the Lunar New Year.

Photographer Paul Daly attended, and we're delighted to present the evening through his eyes.

Members of the Chinese Association dined on a variety of buffet dishes during the evening, which also included a series of performances.

The Year of the Pig is now officially underway. Attendees celebrated Chinese New Year, which is also known around the world as Lunar New Year, Asian New Year and Spring Festival. Other cultures mark the celebrations.

Snowy the lion takes a bow for guests at the Chinese Association of Newfoundland and Labrador's celebration. The guests gathered at Branch 56 of the Royal Canadian Legion on Saturday night.

Who can resist the appetizers and main courses?

Christine Wong came dressed for the occasion.

Dr. Yajing Song performs tai chi, during a program of presentations during the evening.

Yaying Tu performs a selection of instrumental music.

Rapper Rongrong Gua delighted the crowd with a lively performance.

Arthur Leung, who chairs the Chinese Association of Newfoundland and Labrador's scholarship fund, enjoys the performances.

Attendees used the lights on their phones to show their appreciation for performers during the night's celebrations.

Master of ceremonies Alick Tsui also did a little performing during the night.
