In 2023, half the people age 15 years and over who are living in Canada made $28.75 per hour or lower.

This was $1.88 (7%) more per hour than they made a decade ago when inflation is taken into account.

Over that period, there was a spike in wages of 5.9% in 2020. Experts say this was not a real increase in wages. The median wage was pushed higher as lower-income workers disproportionately lost their jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic.
